I have a 2000 A4 Quattro with the 2.8l v6 engine and it has 105,000 miles. Recently, it has been difficult to start the car. It doesn't occour every time I try to start the car, but sometimes. Sometimes when the engine is warm, the car will not start and it reaks of fuel all around the car and in the cabin. Sometimes, I can hold the pedal to the floor while starting and it starts up after a while with a few puffs of black smoke from the tailpipe and the fuel smell. What could cause this car to flood during startup? It is getting fire to the plugs, and there is obviously too much fuel getting to the engine. Like I said though, it doesn't happen every time, just sometimes. When it does happen, it usually takes me about 10 minutes to start the car.

Just pulled some codes from my car: P0431 and P0421 Catalyst efficiency low- bank 1 and bank 2. Also found a vaccum line under the hood that has dry-rot and had a hole in it. Purchased some new vaccum hose and will replace that this afternoon. Exactly what could make those codes pop up, and could they be associated with my warm-start problem?
