hi all...i am considering the purchase of an s4, probably from 2000. in my price range, the mileage will probably be somewhere between 75k and 90k. i've been told that the turbos often fail at about 100k. i am just wondering if a costly replacement will be in my near future or if i can simply have them rebuilt. thanks in advance for your help.

Either way you look at it, it is F'ing expensive!! I just went through it with mine. Rebuild or replace?? Not much difference in the end, the big $$$$ comes in the labor form, they/you will literally have to completely remove the engine from the car to do the job. The dealership quoted me $6000 to do mine, and it is next to impossible to do yourself without a variety of specialty tools and a lift at minimum.
Although if you buy one with a manual trans, you could do the KO4 upgrade and make it very much worth your time and $$$. Note: I ended up paying my local Euro shop $4000 which also included many other services including the timing belt and both water pumps.
