Hi All,
I have problems with the volume controls on both our family audi's. I did a little searching and discovered that every Blaupunkt concert in every audi from 199x to 2002? has this same problem. Some very smart chap reverse engineered the radio firmware program and discovered that Blaupunkt have coded their firmware to write the sound volume setting continuously to the EEPROM. Now the EEPROM is only designed to be written 100,000 times. Once the EEPROM fails then the volume control becomes unstable (very loud / off / very loud etc). http://www.erta.ru/review/chorus-problem_eng.shtml Now I see in prevoius posts to this forum with this problem that people advise buying a used Concert on eBAy etc. This is a very bad idea as all these radio's will fail. I have the same problem with my concert stereo. Good advice in your post and I went to the link and read the detail. Do you know who can fix this problem though, I spoke to my local Audi dealership and explained the problem and diagnosis from your post, but they had never heard of such as thing so couldn't help me. any further advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, |

Blaupunkt will replace the micro-controller chip containing the internal EEPROM.
In South Africa I was informed that I must have the unit removed then courier it up to Blaupunkt in Johannesburg where is would be repaired at a cost of R650 which is about US$ 100. Blaupunkt would not confirm that the bug has been fixed. If the bug has not been fixed then the new unit will fail in exactly the same was as the 1000's of previous units failed. I hope this info helps you. Regards Derek |
