96 A4 2.8 5Spd Weak Gas Pedel - No Power

What gives: 96 A4 2.8 5spd Low pedal, slow acceleration and weak power output.

My 1996 A4 2.8 5 Speed has recently gone on a power strike. When I start it up, depress the clutch, release the brake and go into 1st gear all I get is a slow, gradual increase in power. When I press down on the gas pedal, it goes all the way down to the floor with little pressure. The same thing happens in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th (no acceleration and weak pedal).
I don't think its the clutch because she tries to gain speed and the tac revs but its like i'm not getting any gas.

I called an area Audi dealership and they said (without asking too many questions) that it is my cat converters and that they cost $1,000 each. That sounded a bit high so I thought I'd check the forum for the least to most expensive
fixes.

Hi it's very cheap, is South Africa we pay $4000 (24000 rand) each!!!
I say have it fixed. It is cheaper there for two than here is South Africa for one, go for it
