'96 A4 V6 high idle

Hi guys,
Have an A4 2.6 v6 and the idle seems to be a bit high, like a bit over a thousand revs. only happens sparodically but is quite annoying as when i pull up at the lights it jerks a bit and wants to take off again, even with my foot firmly on the brakes. Could this be a computer problem or is it more likely mechanical??

Check your throtle position, and or sensor.
