I have a 99 A4 Quttro 5 speed. The engine is mis-firing or idling very rough. I have found that one of the ignition coils is not firing. It's not the coil since i've tested with a known good one. All other coils test OK. What drives the coils (ignition control module, igniton amp). Any suggestion on what could be the problem? and how to test these areas. Also, if I need to take to dealer how much will it cost. If I can repair it my self I will try, I don't have any special tools besides regualr shop tools. Any help is appreciated.

This sounds like the same problem I had with my '97 A4 TSport.

It was a faulty Ignition Control Unit - not sure where it is located as it was fixed by my local Audi specialist - it's just a small rectangular control box, however it is quite an expensive part - around £190 (not sure what that is in dollars).

If it helps, the part number was 4D0 905 351.

Check out this link for full info, pics, etc: http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1594531.phtml

Hope that helps,
MrLew

Edited to correct part number and add URL
