1999.5 1.8t Viscous Fan

Hi there, i'm trying to source where a certain noise is coming from on my car. I think it is either the dump valve or the viscous fan.
Basically it is a kind of rushing of air / exhaust leaking kind of sound when driving along under boost.
You can't hear it above a certain speed out of the window due to wind noise, but in second you can. It doesn't do it when you rev the car when stationery though.
Any ideas?
Car is chipped - allegedly approx 200bhp and as far as I know still has the original dump valve fitted, which is something I intend to rectify soon.
Also I mentioned the fan as it seems to spin, or be driven all the time, even at idle when the car is first started from cold, is this correct?

i have exactly the same problem with my 2002 renault clio. but i can hear air escaping when i rev it at stationary. Im guessing its something to do with air filter. do audis have electric accelarator pedals, or is it wire operated?

Mine is drive by wire. It's maybe not the fan, it appears to only be when under boost.
