i have it too and it's a common fault. you need a new dashpod from audi, which is £585.

I have the same problem with mine. Audi Canada issued a service bulletin on "fading instrument clusters" but my dealer says it will not provide $ assistance for the replacement of the cluster.
I would see your dealer and ask for aq copy of the service bulletin (if one has been issued by Audi USA). Don't be surprised if they are reluctant to give you a copy. If they refuse, there are web sites where you can track these down.
Bottom line, I think the dash cluster on a $40K plus car shouldn't fade like that!

Good luck.

I have 2001 A6, and my display also has dead pixles. I did call Audi and filed a coplaint, this is $40+K car and it seems like many are having the same issue, if you can please also call the AUDI to report the issue. By law they have to forward this info to the gov. to check if they can issue a recal on clusters and have them replaced. Thanks

Mine's a 2000 S4 with dead pixels in the DIS. Seems it's a pretty common problem.

Also on my 98 A4, the display is fragmented so to say... barely readable. Any news from Audi? I've had similar problems with laptop computer LCD screens that corrupt/fragment when the display plug is loose.
