Battery Completely Dead?

Helllo,

Im new to the forums... lately I have been having alot of trouble with my car.

Its a 2000 Audi A4 2.8 quattro.

About 3 weeks ago... the battery died. The remote key would not work and the doors would not open(unless opened manually). We replaced the battery and it was working fine. Tonight I tried to start the car and Ive had the same problem. Its like the car has died.. none of the lights turn on, theres no response from the car, ignition wont start, nothing lights up on any of the panels.

If you could help me work through this or help explain the problem I might have I would greatly appreciate it. Its my first car and I am very new to this. I might need alot of help

something is draining the battery... or you've got a bad connection.. make sure the battery terminals are clean.. hook the new bat up to a meter and see how much power its got. if its dead, something in the car is not off and its draning the battery. if there is power in the bat, you've got another problem.

start there.

I have exactly the same problem on my A4 . The battery simply drains away overnight.

Did you manage to find out the cause ?

I am considering buying a 2000 2.5TDI Quattro Auto, which is advertised about 40 miles from me. On Saturday last after arranging to view this car at this independent dealer, to cut a long story short, for some reason the car had a totally drained battery, the bonnet was up and the battery was on charge. Upon trying to start the car with the help of a portable powerpack the car refused to even turn over.
The dealer told me that the car would have to be sent to Audi to recode the system. Does this mean that if I bought this car and was unfortunate to suffer a drained battery the car would have to be recoded?
Is this drained battery syndrome commonplace on A4's?
Is this car worth buying?

Are you sure its not a Alternator issue?? As the electrics on these require so much power and will drain the battery within hours. (the battery could of been dead and then you only realised in the morning)

Get a meter on the battery, measure it prior to turning the car on, Then start the car (jump leads/power pack DONT bump start) then recheck the battery to see if the power in the battery has increased.. if it does its not the alternator, ( Guess you already know this but you never know!!)
