A4 1.8t Vicsous Link

I have a noise coming out of the back end of my a4. seems to be coming from left rear wheel area but I am a little concerned it might involve the viscous link. any one know what the typical symptomns are for a failing viscous link?

Audi issued a technical bulletin on this subject. Ask your dealer for a copy of the bulletin to see if they may offer to repair /replace and under what conditions. These bulletins are sometimes like hidden warranty.

The previous owner of my '99.5 1.8T had a humming noise from the same area, and it turned out to be a bad wheel bearing (at about 95k miles). Typically heard at lower speeds, until it's completely shot.

Thanks Wyle E. Hope you are right. Beariing is undoubtedly alot cheaper to replace than the viscous link.
