OK YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR MMI SOFTWARE VERSION BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO BE RUNNING AT 3460 AND ABOVE SO I WOULD ADVISE YOU UPDATE TO THE LATEST VERSION 5150 USING CD ROM 8T0 906 961.

Code the gateway for media postion 2 and clear all your fault codes and test.
Sorry no photos but i did this last night and i was busy but the instructions are easy to follow and the ami fits beneath the arm rest and your just bridging the diagnostic wires and most cab,es at the multi changer which the pre made loom fits lovely.

I had the AMI retrofitted to my 2007 Q7 at an authorized dealer and hardware- wise no problems. The MMI high is updated to 5150, but the AMI doesn't recognize any device I plug in (WD External USB HDD etc.). Only if I plug in a multi card reader with a 4GB CF card in it, it says that the AMI software needs updating. I downloaded the software from Audi website and followed the procedure for installation, but I always get the message the software is not compatible.... Anyway, it's back to the dealer tomorrow for another day of flashing, and if they don't manage to get it working, they will connect to Audi specialist in their factory in Germany to sort it out.

If you have any idea what could be wrong I would much appreciate it....

Check the ami lead for your ipod is correct and also check the media postion was coded and there are two updates.1 cd rom ia multi changer updates the software and the usb update from the audi site which updates the driver.Apart from that i can offer no more help without a vag com log and loop break test of the most ring

I am also looking to install an AMI unit, I have seen one of the IPOD adaptors that appears to use the most ring (this one was fitted into the top of the glovebox)

Does the harness connector you refer to plug directly into the back of the cd changer (4L0 919 411)? as i did not see a spare connection port when i was having a look at the back of it and / or does it connect into the MOST ring?

You connect into the most ring and the normal multi plug at the back of the cd changer.The retro fit loom just plugs into the existing looms.All this is done at the multi changer

I have run a scan on my Q7 and my software is currently 3450. I might be able to download 3460 but i cannot find 5150. is there anyway of downloading the latest software updates?

You can download 5150 but i advise you get your local dealer to do it as the phone prep can fail when updating to 5150.Also if you retro fit AMI and don't have vagcom you will need the dealer to enable the ami in media position 2 and also enter the svm code to tell the vag server that you have retro fitted ami which will then be added to the specification list (pr numbers) of your vehicle.
You don't need any other mmi update disc as 5150 does all the updates for q7 in one go and the disc 8T0 906 961 is available from audi parts at a cost of £3.

I have a VAS tool which i can use to perform the update and £3 seems to be a reasonable investment. How do i get the PR strings updated by Audi if i carry out the update myself?

what is the worst case scenario if the 5150 update kills the phone preparation?

I have also installed a towbar which was coded by the towbar fitting centre using guided VAS and this has not been recorded by the VAG server so i am concerned any updates may affect the coding of the trailer ECU as well
