Default Engine Re-map suppliers

Hi,

I am seriously looking to remap my 3.0TDI S Line Q7. I have googled the word 'remap' and have been lead to various tuning websites. I was hoping someone could recommend one to me within the UK. I am based in the North East of England but I don't mind travelling up or down the country if the supplier comes highly recommended.
I have seen common gains are around +45bhp and +67lbft of torque. Is this the norm, because I think I would be more than happy with that?

What sort of time scale am I looking at?
Is it worth going to someone with a rolling road to get a proper 'before and after' picture?

This is something I don't want to take lightly. My Q7 is my pride and joy and I don't want to damage her!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Mark

Smithy,
I went for superchips, as they guarantee the engine/drivetrain should anything happen caused by their re-map.
The MD of superchips has a Q7 himself.
I opted for the bluefin which enables you to re-set to original at any time. I have found this ideal for the longer autoroute journeys at high constant speeds.
Have a look at superchips.co.uk

Hi Frizz,

Thanks for replying so promptly.

I once had a VW golf GTI that I had chipped with an APR chip and the guy that installed it warned me to stay away from Superchips (and he was a superchip supplier!). His reasoning was that the APR chip was specifically designed for VW/Audi, whereas Superchips are more generic in tailoring for multiple brands.

Having said that, it is the first time I have seen a device like that to flash your own car. I especially like the fact that it can be flashed back to standard at any time. In addition the warranty offered, covering the drive train, looks like a really good selling point. As does the 7 day money back guarantee.

I do have a couple of questions though. How many times can you upgrade the ECU and then flash it back to factory standard using bluefin?

The power gains are a little short of what I could get if I took it to, say, Celtic tuning (they offer a free re-flash back to standard if you are unhappy with the results), but I am mainly concerned with acheiveing better drivabillity.

I welcome any feedback you or anybody else may have.

Mark

As far as I know, you can re-map as many times as you like. Plus the advantage of bluefin is that you have no need to travel to a dealer.( They popst you the tool, then e-mail you the codes).
I have changed mine at least half a dozen times.
Frizz.

I have taken the plunge and ordered one. I have just had a telephone confirmation from Superchips confirming the delivery address and I have been promised delivery for Monday.

I will post my opinion of it once I have had chance to sample it.

Thanks again Frizz.

I installed the bluefin this morning and I must confess the car seems more punchy from a standing start and it seems to push that little bit longer before running out of steam. Exactly what I was hoping to acheive.

My only concern is there were a couple of error messages appeared, during the installation, on my car. The first was an engine management error and the other was a headlamp range error. Both the faults dissapeared once the bluefin had fully installed, but I am concerned they will be stored within the fault code log and the dealer will spot these on my next visit and potentially invalidate my warranty.

Am I advised to purchase VAG com, and wipe these codes, or do you think Bluefin will have wiped them after installation.

Help, please!

Mark

I only flashed it yesterday morning, so it is too early to tell. Besides, I haven't stopped grinning at the extra pace I have unlocked, so unless I ease off on the right pedal, the fuel economy will be through the floor!

I have every reason to believe that driven sensibly, the fuel economy will increase. The trouble is, when you have an extra 45 bhp under your foot, it is hard to resist.

In all honesty, I bought this for the extra punch when the car seemed asthmatic (about 3000 - 4500 rpm) and I am prepared to live with the consequences!

I will report back on fuel economy issues and other pit falls of re-mapping diesel engines when I have had time to asses everything.

Initial response is good!

Mark

PS
Sent an Email to Superchips regarding fault codes and I am waiting on a reply. I will let you know the outcome.

Smithy37 what engine is fitted is it the 233Bhp or the newer 240Bhp unit? Also does it have a DPF fitted I'm intrested in getting my Q7 done. I have had Upsolute upgrades in the past on an A6 and a VW Touareg but Upsolute don't have a remap for the newer 240Bhp engine only the older 233Bhp.
Cheers

Hi Gorwan,

I have the 171 Kw engine (229.3 BHP/232.5 PS). It is a 2006 model. I am unsure about the diesel particulate filter. My handbook say's it might be fitted.. Gee, thanks handbook!

I was unaware there was a newer engine available, although on the Audi website it does show the 3.0 TDI with 240 PS.

My suggestion is contact superchips direct and seek technical advice.

Sorry I couldn't be more useful.
