as i am thinking of fitting a rear view camera. As there appears to be a connection to the tv tuner could someone clarify the following (A8 Tech Possibly)

If i go for the RVC option only i will need to upgrade the interface box too as this is where the the video input will go

if i go for the TV tuner i will also need to replace the interface box.

if i go for both the tv tuner and RVC how will the conection to the interface box me made as there is only one video input that i am aware of.

Are the harnesses the same when connecting individually or does rvc connect to the tv tuner or vice versa which would require a different part number

are the antennas already installed with just a requirement to fit amplifiers or is an additional antenna required.

Thanks

Both the TV and RVC require a front controller module 07 with F-BAS for the video feed.

The TV video output would go through the camera control module (if fitted) and then the camera module connects to the F-BAS input. This allows the camera feed to overide the TV signal when reverse is selected.

Otherwise the TV goes directly to the F-BAS input.

Have you seen the price of the interface box which comes with the FBAS connector, which incidentally is the lowest resolution of any kind of vidoe input, this is due to legal issues when transmitting video sources. I am sure that the hardware inside the ECU cant be hugely different and it would be interesting to know if harmann and becker or and aftermaket company could supply reworked units that could add the fbas connector.

For circa £600 that a new interface box would cost i am considering how much additional feature content you get for your money when buying the dension 500 gateway ( but i dont like the non OE connections and warranty issues though). has anyone had any experiencences of dension products, either good or bad?

The Dension gateway 500 does not do video, so why would you use that in place of the head unit with fbas?

Well spotted craig , the dension unit can cope with all the audio inputs that i am ever likely to require and i would need to use an lvds break in box for the video input. There are a couple of these units i have seen, Dension have one under development.

Even though this is not a perfect solution due to the additional packaging requirements it is definitely more cost effective than using oe equipment. Some of these units contain a valet swith so any DTC's are not detcted by the delear, however i would prefer if the software was developed to prevent a dtc being logged in the first place.
