Default Temperamental Advanced Key

Hi all, and thank you for welcoming me to your group.

I recently purchased an Oct 2006 (56 plate) Audi Q7 S-Line 3.0 TDI in Mugello Blue. I absolutely love the car but I am being out-foxed by my so called Advanced Key. Basically, it has a mind of it's own. Sometimes it won't allow me to unlock or lock the car the conventional way, with the button on the key. Other times it will not lock by pressing the lock button on the exterior handle. It can take me up to 5 minutes to lock/unlock the car! - Not so much an Advanced key but a retarded key?

I had it back in to the dealer yesterday, but as is the way with intermittent faults, it refused to act faulty. I had read in another thread somewhere that there was a software upgrade for this key, but when I mentioned this to my dealer he just looked at me as though I was speaking Russian. He gave me the dreaded line.... just keep an eye on it.

Anybody who has experienced similar problems, or knows of such issues, please shout up.

Incidentally, I changed to the spare key...Same problem and replaced the battery.

I am also running the latest 42** MMI Software

Thanks

Mark

Default Further strange goings on

Further to my last post....

I am still experiencing the temperamental locking unlocking issues in my last post. However, I seem to have more luck locking the car from the rear passenger door. For some reason, when I get out of the car, I can lock it immediately by pressing the button in the handle on the rear passenger door. Something that doesn't always work on the drivers door.
It is strange though, that it always seems to unlock the drivers door.

The remote keyfob still has a mind of it's own and will suit itself whether it wants to lock or unlock. Repeated stabbing of the button eventually locks/unlocks the car.

Anybody with any suggestions or experiencing the same problems, please get in touch.
Even if you have an advance key and it is working fine, I would still like to hear from you.

Thanks

Mark

Hi,

Whilst I'm not going to be of much use I can tell you that I currently experience the very same problem with the new A4 (2008), to the letter in fact. Sometimes the car just refuses to lock either by touching the sensor on the driver's handle or the remote - I often just give up, leave the car unlocked and go back and lock it later - refusing to embarrass myself in front of the neighbours!

It definitely shouldn't be a battery issue as it did this from new. Sometimes, I found whilst sitting in the car that the car told me the key wasn't present in the vehicle, even though it was. I resolved this by removing the remote for my other car (Toyota) from the key ring - I can only presume some electronics 'got in the way'.

Anyway, if the problem persists I will approach my Audi dealer and see what excuse they come up with - I'll be sure to let you know.

Chris.

I have seen this on a couple of Q7s and one A5 and is quite difficult sometimes to track down as it doesn't always log a fault, eventualy I managed to reproduce the problem and it turned out to be one or more of the touch sensitive door handles, if the test plan for the sensor is carried out and left for some time to test you can spot the offending sensor, if this sensor thinks it is being asked to open then the lock buttons and remote are disabled. One car actually had 2 faulty sensors but only came to light when the first one was changed, (which was kinda annoying for me as well as the customer) The main thing from this is that the problem you have MUST be reproduced under test to pin it down and it can be resolved.

Interesting... disappointing too... wish I'd gone for the TV option instead now.

Do you happen to know if this test can be performed via VCDS/VAG-COM?

Thanks,
Chris.

No worries. I probably will take it to an Audi dealer, there's only so many times I'm prepared to 'pretend' I've locked the car to save face with the neighbours.

I did read the fault codes and there is one for Acc/Start Auth. which I don't think is connected and was before I took delivery anyhow.

Access and start authority control unit is connected to your key problems, if this has returned then the centre should able to find the problem.

Thanks for posting on this thread as I still haven't had a satisfactory conclusion.
I just want to know why I have to replace the ignition switch, if it is a problem with the door. Is this something that you have experienced?

It isn't that I doubt what you say, but an ignition switch would be a warranty job and I know what the dealer will ask me 'what do I base my facts on?'

Please come back and answer as I would love to solve this problem without having to purchase VAG COM and spend hours sitting in the car trying to get a fault code.
