Finally got the AMI retrofitted a few weeks ago in the proper armrest location and it blows every other Ipod solution out of the water....it's as near to perfect as you could make it IMHO.....
Happy to answer questions for anyone wanting to do the same Si |

Did you you read my link fully ???
NAVplus :: Audi Navigation Forum :: View topic - AMI retrofit I have posted pictures of the bits required and all the part numbers are there. The AMI goes in the armrest and replaces the storage bin. All other audi's get them in the glovebox but this is not the correct postion in the Q7 Have a look at my link again....it's all very obvious really. Remove the storage bin ( which you can do your self and it just pops out Install the brackets/mounts in the armrest run the fibre and power from the center console Plug in the AMI and then slot in to the armrest bracket. Easy and job done Si |

I'm investigating the feasibility of retrofitting AMI in the armrest location in my Q7. The link to your post on navplus no longer works - I've tried searching but can't find it after their site restructuring. Did you install the AMI yourself and if so how complicated was it please? Any advice appreciated - it would be nice to hear something other than the "it's not possible" that I've been getting from the dealers ![]() |

I had someone do the install for me but I got all the parts
This is the link you need to my old thread AMI retrofit - Navigation Forum It's easy, the parts that go in the armrest cost next to nothing and are super easy to install.....I actually did that bit myself but the running of the fibre and power I had someone do for me but again I'm told it's super easy Post here if you have questions and I'll see what help I can offer. If you close to Milton Keynes I can put you in touch with the expert who do the fitting for me Si |

To fit the cradle under the armrest, would I be able to see where to fix the cradle if I lift out the bin that's currently under there? Did you have to remove the armrest to fit the cradle or can you access the base of the hinge without removing it? I think I've ordered all the parts I need - just waiting for them to arrive. I'd appreciate the contact details of your expert (by PM) - although I'm in Hampshire, but MK is closer than Manchester! |

Yeap just pull out the bin and you'll see where it fits. I don't think you need to remove the armrest but it was a while ago when I did mine so I can't actually remember if I fitted it or the installer did.
My fitter is Richter Sport ask for Craig. Good luck Si |
