Dim Headlights - Improvements?

I have had my 2001 TDI Allroad for years and always thought the headlights were quite poor (they are normal bulbs). In recent weeks I have realised how dim they are compared to other cars.
Has anyone else upgraded their headlights - any well known improvements? The two audi garages I use have both given me different specs for the the bulbs - anyone know for sure:
Dip/Low = H1, Full/high = H9, side light = SO1 and Fog = H7

yea we sell bulbs and that is correct listing but S01 shold be 501

Thanks I fitted a set of Halfords (a UK store) own brand dipped superbrights bulbs that had won the autoexpress bulb test and dip lighting is greatly improved.
