Default 02 Allroad 2.5Tdi Tiptronic problem

Hi, wondering if anyone can help... have recently purchased a '02 Allroad 2.5Tdi with the 5spd Tiptronic auto transmission.

On the way back from Scotland last w/e a warning light appeared and after checking the manual it said to take to a dearlership, we I have and been told that the ECU needs replacing (@£962 inc labour & VAT)... so am waiting for one of these to be delivered.

In the meantime on few occassions the car has been stuck in 1 gear and revs real hard... this seems to be rectified by turning off and re-starting... I called the dealership again, thinking that it was linked to the ECUproblem, but they advised that this was unlikely and probably a fault with the transmission.

Has anyone else come across this or offer some advice? Not being the richest person in the world I'm already dreading the ECU bill never mind anything else!!

Many thanks,

Mick

I read somwhere in the manual that this happens if the computer needs re-programing (*?**ed if I know what that means!) oh - it also said "take to Audi dealer!" Having said that - my recent experience with a local Audi dealer was that this is not a current model and no-one there seemed to know much about Allroads.

Default Tiptronic

I found an allroad excusive forum (but lost it again when my internet favs got deleted) where it seems it is common for the 2.7T petrol-linked transmission to go out from as early as 55K miles to 100K miles. May want to Google Audi allroad & look for a specifically allroad url, since these guys all have had a similar experience & may have some tips
