first of all you have I think the most sophistigated and best 4weel drive car you can buy and drive today as have I (2001 allroad 144k km) The compressor is programmed to run only if the car runs atleast 30km an hour (so you have the luxery never to hear it run!) I have all the techinical manuals that were ment for internal audi use only.
Ask sobody to drive and listen near spare tyre while driving say 50 km/hour and you can hear te compressor or find fuse and make indicator light. If compressor runs al the time get the leak fixed or you will need a new compressor soon. kind regards Bas |

Did you ever get any good info about this problem. I have had my car in the shop multiple times for this exact same problem. My regular E-mail is bzam@att.net.

many thanks, It is an intermittant problem, if its left on height 3 it stays there, lower than this the right front drops down. Its not a major, but I will do as you suggest and see what is happening. The car is up to 170k now and has had the gearbox replaced as well, as the reverse gear stopped working. It goes fine now and yes I also agree with you comments about the car. It is the best car I have ever had.

well i have a very similar but yet different in detail problem with the suspension.
Have had the front falling down at level1 year ago so got the pricey both front bags replaced for new OEM bags. Since then the vehicle never dropped, but so often I hear the compressor running. Aproximately it starts every minute basically. However never any of the corners drop. What do you think is wrong? I don't want to experience the compressor failure. |

Hi Mikesonform,
I am afraid that you will have to find your own ways to shop for it arround. Try the skoda-auto dealer. They are VW group as well and might havve a good price on it. Make sure you have to buy not only the air strut itself but the rubber mount collar which would be supplied with all the stuff you need, the new bolt too. The price I got from skoda dealer was about 800 euro per bag and about 100 for the top rubber thing with th small stuff. I don't know about how these things would be in NZ. Good luck anyway. |

I love my allroad but.......The adjustable suspension is an amazing feature, but......
There is nothing worse than coming out to start your car in 20F temps and see one side or the entire front end collapsed. There is nothing more frustrating than hearing the compressor come on every few minutes then see a warning light on the dash because the front end lost pressure while driving. Pullover on the side of the road, say a prayer and lift up on the downed corner to coax it back up. All while standing in a snow drift in a pair of Bruno Maglis' with a suit and tie. The Fix: I live in the Northeast and have had enough cars in my 42 years to know that you never change just one in a pair of anything. $1600 to change both front corners and another 1k for a compressor. I was not liking plan "A". Plan B- 2Bennet makes a coilover conversion. We own a Durango with a Hemi so I did not need the allroad to be our SUV. I ordered the Swap from 2Bennet. The 2Bennett guys were very helpful. They asked how stiff I wanted the springs and what kind of driving I was doing with the allroad. I let them know that I drive very spirited when the 3 carseats in the back are not filled. The coilover kit came with exact and explicit directions. My independent garage had no issues with the directions. Installation was delayed with the lack of anit-seize on factory installed parts. Finished product rocks! I had my Indie garage set the springs at a few mm lower than the lowest setting on the factory springs. Wow! The cornering is tight. No nose dive on hard braking. Lane changes at highway spreeds are precise. If you don't need the adjustable suspension and want reliability, seriously concider this option. This crap is addictive. I had them do a Revo Technik Map after the 100K waterpump, timing belt change. Non turbo porches' fear me, 'vette drivers stay in the middle lane and dare not challenge. Damn this allroad is one hell of a sleeper and I can't wait to put the Cat back system on it. In Audi we Trust,
