Unhappy 2004 A8L engine fails completely

I have a 2004 Audi A8L with ~ 95,000 miles on the vehicle. I have done all of the reqired service at the suggested timing.

My engine just failed with a broken clip that holds the valve spring in place. Without this clip the valve penetrated the piston, penetrated the side wall and destroyed the adjacent cylinders. The Audi dealer has been great to work with on this issue. Installed this will cost ~$13,800 plus tax. Yikes!

My extended warranty company is attempting to find a used engine, without success. If they find a used engine should I accept it or pay the extra for a factory rebuilt/new engine?

Has anyone else had a complete engine fail on a 2004 A8L?
