Question Sat Nav/TMC Tuner issue

Can anyone help, please? Every time I turn the audio system on I get a message displayed on the screen that says "Connection to RDS-TMC Tuner is faulty or could not be established".

I no longer get the radio, CD or Sat-Nav information displayed in the instrument panel, I have to look down to the centre console.

I have a 2000 A8 3.7 Quattro D2 with the RNS-D audio/sat-nav/TV system.

Anyone know how to solve my problem?! Preferably without breaking the bank, I've just had to replace the air-con compressor!

Thanks.

Replace the TMC module behind the cluster. It's a little silver box a little bit bigger than a *** packet with 3 connections, antenna in, antenna out and power/data.

This module translates the can messages to the cluster and adds the TMC functionality to the nav systems.

Which is why you get the message and have lost the radio/nav information in the DIS.

They can be found on ebay or places like VAG parts.

From audi they are about £200, from ebay they are around £50 upwards.

Thanks for that, craigyb.

Is it just a straight unplug/plug swap, or is it more complicated? Bear in mind I haven't worked out how to get the display unit out of the console yet (mind you, I haven't really looked!).

Pretty much a straight swap,

Cluster comes out by pressing the tabs on the cluster and removing the two screws below them.

Disconnecting the cluster connectors is the hardest part

Been looking on eBay and VAG parts, , can't find a module. You wouldn't happen to have/know of one I could buy, would you, please? Happy to PM if public response is inappropriate.

Doh! I only looked on the UK site.

I've ordered one from the Italian site. Just waiting now!

Thanks craigyb. If I have problems would you be able to fit it for me, please? For a fee, of course; I appreciate that you have a business to run!

Post TMC problems as well

I have been browsing the web for a solution for this for weeks. Finally i came over this post, and it seems to be the same problem I have got. I have an Audi A6 Avant 2.5 TDI, 2003 with Navi plus. I have the exact same error message in the display, and the same symptoms (no RDS or navi info in the instrument cluster).
I scanned the car for error codes using VAG Com, and here are the fault codes i found:

By reading the posts above it seems to me that this TMC box should be located behind the instrument cluster. I also checked out this link: TMC BOX CAN GATEWAY Audi Navigation plus on eBay, also, Cavi, Spine e Accessori, Autoradio e Monitor, Auto ricambi e accessori (end time 29-Mar-08 00:40:51 GMT)

The box I found using this link looks identical to a box that is installed on the right hand side of the drivers foot well (left hand steering) in my car. My question would be where I can expect to find this TMC box (behind the instrument cluster or if this is the box I found on the side in the foot well)..??

Many thanks for any help....

Well, the part has finally arrived from Italy - clearly the postal system doesn't follow Mussolini's train timetables, whatever you do don't rely on anything posted in Italy arriving at a specific time!

I've fallen at the first hurdle; I can't work out how to get the sat-nav/TV/Audio sytem out of the centre console without causing any damage. I don't want to poke around and end up with scratches everywhere, and I don't want to pull or lever stuff in case it breaks!

Anyone got pictures?

The TMC module is not behind the radio, it is normally near the cluster on an A6/A8 or in the boot of the A3/A4
