Default 2004 A8 Phone Activation

After many months and visits to the dealer, I finally got the bluetooth to connect to my phone. I got the proper cradle, the BTUM powers up and my blackberry pairs with the BTUM. All is great, right? No, all is not great.
I still get the message on my MMI "The telephone is not activated", please visit your Audi Dealer.
During the process of getting all of this to work, my dealer replaced the Telematics unit and my cradle to get it to work as far as I have it now. But they don't seem to understand that I am trying to get my phone to work though the MMI, mic, and speakers. I am really fed up trying to get this thing fixed
Someone on another board told me that I need the car programed through VAG-COM, and them pointed me to the ross-tech site. But I have no idea how that works or what to do next. If I new what to do, I would take my car to another dealer to get it fixed. As a matter of fact, if someone could point me to a dealer in the Balt/Wash area, I would be most happy.
My specs:
Audi 2004 A8L
NAV
Media Version: USA_09900_2319
Databank version: 2024/20070125020917
CAR-Version
SW: D3-HU 6346 06.0.0 0413
HW: D3-HU 6346 D2.0
FC SW: 02332AUFC78K0F46n
FC PS: 0020 FCHW: H42
I do suspect that the MMI software is very old.

How do I go about obtaining an update? I have read that I need to update to version 2120 then to whatever the latest version is.

Default My VAG-COM Diagnostics - Can anybody Help?

The good news: I got my VAG-COM early.

The bad news: It seems as if my telephone unit won't communicate.

I have taken my car to the dealer and they claim that they replaced the telematics unit. I am not sure if it is working. One part of the diag says that it is ok, the other part says it is not. Do you think it could still be a physical problem or a programming one.

I took this problem to the dealer before I reached 50K miles. I have an pre-certified warranty, but I don't know if this type of issue is still covered. Is my dealer being lazy, or not know what they are doing?

I feel as if I am wasting my time with project now. All I wanted was bluetooth.

Default I attached the dump from the OBD

It shows errors with both the telephone and voice control. Last night I went through Technical Bulletin 91-04-03. Every thing seemed OK.

The sound system seems to have component protection.

Channel 8 of Telematics (75) was set to 1 instead of 0.

Some have told me that all my system can do is to mute the speakers when a call is made. That is all my system does. Others have, what I assume, the same system as me and have their BTUM working through the speakers and the MMI. Do I need to add a telephone module to my car?

I performed the steps in TSB 91-05-15 and one there was an error. (I had previously performed basically the same steps in 91-04-03 and missed this error) On page 5 of 18, it states that the loudspeaker must pulse. My loudspeaker did not pulse. It then states:

If loudspeaker does not pulse and the radio is functioning OK;
The problem may be with the radio coding.
  • Recheck radio coding and then recheck for radio DTCs.

How do I recheck radio coding?

The speaker portion of the telematics still is not working. The microphone works fine. I can call someone and they can actually hear me talk.

So now, I finally got a chance to work on this problem again. I ran the "Telematics/V60 Digital Phone Diagnostics Guideline" [Technical Bulletin 91-05-15]. There is a scction titled "TELEMATICS (address word:75) "Final Control Diagnosis" which describes how to check the telematics box. Everything checks out except one thing, the speaker. The bulletin states:

- For Telematics (address word: 75) the loudspeaker must pulse.
- Auxiliary speaker is located in the passenger B-Pillar.

If the loudspeaker does not pulse and the radio is functioning OK:
The problem may be with the radio coding.
- Recheck radio coding and then recheck for radio DTCs.

I take my car back to the dealer for my 55K maintenance and take the opportunity to show the service advisor the technical bulletin. So when I get my car back, I am told that the telematics couldn't do what I claim. He shows me on the technical bulletin where the VIN Range is from 4E_5N000001 to 4E_5N010600. It happens that my VIN number is xxxxxx4E64N01xxxx. Does this mean that I can't fix my problem. I don't even know if the technician even tried to look at the radio coding or not. He may have just looked at the bulletin and saw that my car is out of range. When I took my car to the dealer about the telematics originally, they told me that this can't be done and I told them that I have heard from many Audi owners who have this working.

Default Success!!!!

Just in case any one cares:

Setting the adaptation codes in the control head (address 07) as follows:
channel 6, value 16
channel 12, value 4
has done the trick for me. It wakes up Onstar (even if you can't connect) but more importantly the BTUM now works and I can hear the phone through the speakers. Also I can store numbers and tags in the directory and call them via voice commands.

Thanks to nielso on another forum.
