Angry 93 A8 auto-adjusting headlights

My 93 A8 has a strange problem.

Every time it goes into the dealers for a service (4 times now), the headlights go out of adjustment. They are in perfect working order when it goes in, that is they switch on, raise to maximum height, lower to minimum height and then settle down to the level of their choice. When I get the car back, they come on but do none of this adjustment - the offside light goes to minimum and the nearside light to maximum height.

It has done this every time it goes to the dealers. I am not sure if it is a mechanical fault or a s/w issue. The dealer does not know and simply re-adjusts them, normally after a heated conversation with me and complete denial that they were good when I took them in.

Anybody seen the same or had similar problems?

Thanks in advance.
