Default Considering a new A8 3.0TDI

Hi,

I am new to the forum and am considering a new A8. I have never owned an Audi before - any advice or comments on these cars?

Also interested on how easy it is to connect a TV tuner and/or DVD to the MMI screen without having to go down the Audi OEM route.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Steve

I bought a used 2005 A8 3.0 TDI earlier this year and am very happy with it - the only comment I'd have is that buying new, you'll find a good way to lose a lot of money. My car is specced with lots of options and would be £55k new, but less than 2 years old I paid just over £30k.

Kufatec (KUFATEC GmbH - A8 - 4E) sell a variety of kits that can retro fit TV/DVD etc into the car, although if you go 3rd party then you may not have as nice integration with Audi MMI (ie in MMI you may be able to choose the AV source, but everything else will need to be done by a separate remote).

If you get OEM TV tuner, craigyb on here has a procedure to unlock it so that you can still view TV (or other input source) while moving...

I have now ordered the car - it will be a 2008 model with several options now standard fitment:

DAB, 4 Zone climate, heated front seats, Xeon plus, bluetooth, folding/dimming mirrors.

Also some new colours and minor exterior changes - new grill, indicators in the mirrors, LED rear lights.

There are some fantastic leasing deals at the moment - under £500 per month for £50K plus car!

TV tuner is still an £845 option which I think is too expensive.

Waiting for delivery in late November

Car is being delivered on Tuesday.

Any reccomendation which is the best compatible phone for the MMI. The bluetooth connection is now standard on these cars. I have heard of issues with some Nokia phones

Thanks

Steve

I have one more Q. Does anyone know how to convert a 2007 Audi A8 3.0 TDi SE to have automatically retractable mirrors installed?? i'v asked audi and they wouldn't want to take it on and should have been done on when ordering a new Audi. which I did but the hobbits who were dealing with my order did not do it!!!!. i shouldnt have taken the car i know. but thats water under the bridge now. iv had the car a week and it looks ridicuals getting out and pushing mirros up each time i park up in London town.

First Post Sorry for it being So long,!

Auto dimming and folding mirrors are now standard on 2008 cars.

They don't fold automatically (unless this is configurable in the MMI) - you need to use the mirror control knob on the door
