Default Removal of 2003 A8 MMI switches / fingerprint problem

Does anyone know how to remove the MMI switch assembly from the console of a late 2008 A8? I have a problem with my fingerprint reader (it won't work, just says 'transfer error, please re-try') and need to get the MMI switches out to get to the reader.
Thanks

Have you tried cleaning the surface of the reading eye? If not the MMI unit comes out really easy, remove the ashtray insert, you will see a torx scew, remove it and lift the whole console at the front then unclip it from the centre console, while lifted unclip all the connectors and out she comes.
