Default A8 Auto-Ranging Headlights

Does any list member know what Auto Ranging headlights are and how to fix the warning light I have constantly displayed reporting the Control Unit is Faulty?

I am guessing that it automatically sets the dipped headlight height according to proximity to vehicle in front.

I have had the light come on in the past when stuck in traffic for a long time. Usually the warning is cleared next time I start the vehicle.

Now however, it is on all of the time.

Any clues gratefully received.

Hello Dave, the aim is to low or two high,if no problems with the senders on the lower front suspension arms you will have to adjust via vagcom in basic setting or your control unit is faulty.Try and get the fault memory code.Auto range/auto level reads vehicle hight from the sensors on the suspension arms, these can seez and give incorrect feedback to the control unit to adjust the headlight motors

Thumbs up

Thanks A8 Tech. I will be underneath it as soon as this rain stops.

Let's hope they are just seized and a dose of WD40 does the trick.

WD 40 is not a release agent it's a Water Dispersal (WD) fluid.

Get some Plus Gas or similar - so much better.....
