Default 1.8 non turbo to turbo conversion

Just out of curiosity I was wondering if it was possible to take my 98 A3 non turbo and simply strap on a turbo.

I have read a couple of things online that suggest they both share the same engine but literally one just lacks a turbo.

Cheers Will.

Nope you cant.

You will need a turbo engine ECU and loom oh and gear box to make this work plus brake and may be suspension.

Ok cheers I had a feeling there would be more to it than that.

I'm quite happy with the performance of my standard 1.8 but the turbo would have been a nice idea if it could have been done cheaply :P.

Turbo is another world away from a stock 1.8NA but it would workout cheaper to selll and start again.
