a3 fails to start

I have an intermittent problem with my A3. Sometimes the car won't start after I've driven it and left it for a few minutes. When I try to start it again, it can take several attempts to get it going.
It starts first time in the morning though.
Also, sometimes the engine revs up by itself. If I turn the car off and back on again, it usually fixes the problem but sometimes it can be hard to start again.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like oil in the intake manifold or unmetered air beig drawn into the manifold.Post your engine type and year for further helpand a vag com log would be fantastic

I have the same problem with it not starting after being run for a while but no issues with revs a3 1.8t 2000 (105000k)
