Thumbs down A3 Battery issue

Hi, This is my first post.

I live in Luxembourg and own an Audi A3 S-Line 3.2 V6. Love the car and had no issue with it (apart from having to get my windscreen replaced due to a stone chip) until last week. Basically my boot warning light came on when I was driving to work. I stopped the car and opened and shut the boot but again the warning came on. The boot definately wasn't open as I made sure. Anyway the alarm kept going off due to this problem and eventually when I tried to start the car I got a horrible vibrating noise and the car wouldn't start. I had to get a flight back to the UK and by the time I got back the battery was flat.

So. My car is stuck in the work car park and I am trying to jump start the car. I opened the bonnet and no battery. I have discovered that it is in the boot, under the spare tyre. However as far as I can see there is no physical way of getting the boot open. I can get into the drivers side with the key but can't open the passenger side from the inside and the boot won't open and there isn't any lock. I have searched everywhere for some sort of boot release catch but to no avail. My handbook is in German so that doesn't help either!

Please help before I have to fork out a small fortune to get the car lifted onto a lorry!!

There is a slot at the bottom of the tailgate trim that the blade of the key fits into, the tailgate can be released in this way by sliding the key in the slot and operating a lever.

I managed to find the battery. Any idea what tool I can use to get the bleeding nuts off to get the lid off? Why do Audi make it so hard to get to the battery?

I think some are Torx type bolts. Due to the location of the battery ( as engine compartment is too crowded) it has to be protcted by the box for safety reasons. Yes and a real pain!

Angry electrical fault

ive had the same problem as you with the horrible clunking noise etc (i have an 04 1.9tdi se though)...car not starting cause batt dead etc.... but also my cruise control sometimes does not work, my rear window wiper only works sometimes too...and also the hazard light button stays illuminated when car is off...keys are out of ignition...and so does a wee button on the left handside that operates the 30 secs light thing when you close your doors at night...
