I have had my A3 1.9 TDi Sportsback from April this year from new and it's done around 7 500 miles so far. I take the mileage every time I refuel and I always fill it to the top. I calculate my consumption from this. I do mainly urban driving, but I do a few motorway runs as well, so I suppose the combined ratings would apply.
According to Audi's literature, I should be getting around 56.5 mpg on combined. I never expected to get exactly that, but I would have thought I'd be getting in the region of 50 mpg. I'm actually getting about 32 mpg. This doesn't seem right. I was getting in the high 50's with my Honda Civic which I got rid of just before my A3. The car should be well run in by now, but there seems to be no improvement in efficiency. My local dealer has done diagnostics and can't find anything wrong. He thinks it must be my driving style, but I've been driving for many years in lots of cars and never had a problem. Can anyone suggest anything? |

Hi
My 2.0 TDi Sportback does around 40mpg+ in urban driving, and 50-60 on cruising, speed dependent. I have driven the 1.9 on a loan car and its quite a low power engine (105bhp?) - I noticed that I was having to work the engine quite a bit to get reasonable performance out of it, the same experience I had with a 1.6 auto. Would this account for your figures? Perhaps seems unlikely if you got 50 odd from a Civic. At 7500miles though, I would suggest the car is barely run in. Do you get better figures at steady cruising? STeve |

Try a higher octane diesel like shell v power diesel or bp ultimate , my mate drives a seat 1.9 tdi and swears he gets better mpg and performance running it but only downfall is its 6p more a litre but on a full tank reckons he gets that back + better mpg so it pays for it self..
