Default hi, can anybody help with egr probs?

hi everybody, new to the forum, this is my first post..
i have a 2003 a3 2.0tdi which has been losing cooland somewhere. took it into audi dealer and they said it was the egr pump, and replaced it (£500 quid thank you very much)
couple of days later I noticed the level dropping again. it went to another audi dealer, who found that the first dealer had torn a pipe when reinstalling my new egr pump!!!!!
they replaced it and i claimed the £90 odd back from the original dealer.

however, it still kept losing coolant, and now the dealer says its prob the egr pupm. anybody know how easy thia is for me to replace, how much it'll cost, and whether the prob is likely to be anything else, before i spent more money on parts i dont need.

any help is much appreciated,
thanks

wow...another person!
I would bet my savings on you needing a new head gasket and probably because it has been a while losing coolant a new cylinder head. The reason I think this is because my friend and I bought two identical cars and exactly the same thing that you describe happened within three months of each other. I had egr pipe changed then the pump then the gasket and head. 2500 pounds worth! Sorry! Two dealers involved but I had to argue to get anywhere¬!

You need this diagnosed properly, this engine at this model year was prone to porous cylinder heads, there is a test proceedure and casting marks on the head to identify.

Loosing coolant, is normaly head gasket. You do'nt say if there is coolant leak under car after driving ( if you have air condition you will find wet spot(dam)) under your car). if so, turn off air condition. fill up with colant(wather) drive fore a while (10 - 20 min.) stop car and see if there is water under your car. If not, and coolant is low, trye same procedyre once more. still loosing coolant ???? go to first repair and complain. PS. Sometimes coolant level can drop after replacement ore leages that have been repaired ( just 2 - 10 mm. )

Regards
Frode

Default Woo Hoo

Yes...just been delivered another hire car from audi! It's been a week since my head gasket, cylinder head and egr replacement bits and dun dun duh...my car is broken again! Now the radiator fan won't turn off. Disconnected battery, replaced and it started again. And I had more warning lights on dash!!! Will keep you posted of actual problem when I know more.

Now I know more!

They replaced yet more bits from my engine bay. two new fans and cooling fins on radiator etc.. and now the windows dont go up and down properly. I am quickly going off Audi products and their mechanics!
