gearbox problem
Hi everyone....
Need a tech problem anwering. I drive a w reg 2000 a3 1.6 8 valve, which has over 105000 miles on the clock. It is a gem of a car and has never had any problems - even a flat battery. Just the usual replaced like pads and disks. However, 12 weeks ago the clutch started severly slipping very quickly.
Noting that the rate at which the clutch slipping had come on I figured it wasn't a worn clutch so got my local garage to take out the gearbox only to find that the bearings had disintegrated and punched a massive hole in the side of the gearbox.
I subsequently had the garage source a gearbox from another a3 that had had a shunt up the back end and was written off. The source car had only 40000 miles on the clock. So with everything put back in place I've been back driving the car, but.........
Yesterday the same thing happened. It's punched a great big hole in the side of the box. There is no 'play' in the end flow washer, nor is there any play in the drive and all joints etc are free to move - there is nothing that has seized, that would cause excess pressure/force on the gearbox.
The garage owne has said that they have necer seen such a high mileage car in such cood condition underneath.
Does anybody have any ideas what may be causing the problem?????
Please help.
Thanks
RM
