Which tyres would your recommend for a S3 (225 bhp) registered May 2003.I have been quoted to fit Bridgestones 225/40/Y/18 - would you recommend these or are they too high quality? not good enough? Thoughts and other recommendations please. Rob ![]() |

Hi
I got an s3 too. When I bought it, it had Pireli P zeros at the rear and P6000s at the front. 3 weeks later I understeered off the road in damp weather at a disgracefully modest 50mph... I now use Michen Pilot Sport PS2s which are absolutely stunning! Turn in at ANY speed in the dry and very progressive loss of grip at the limit in the wet/damp! Defo recommend them ![]() Make sure ytou get them off the internet, waaay cheaper. tyre-shopper.co.uk or tyretraders.com Last edited by johnnyddaman : 10-12-2007 at 01:55 PM. |

Hello Rob,
I have just been through the same mine-field. As Johnny says the PS2s seem to be the ultimate choice, and were my first choice but a house move meant the budget was limited. I got 4 Avon ZZ3s fitted through tyre-shopper and am very impressed so far! I scare before the car does in bends! |

I have Goodyear Eagle F1s on my S3 and this is the 2nd set as I was so impressed with the 1st. Cant compare with Mitchellin but can definately say they grip extremely well wet or dry and seem to last a fair while. Cost me £320 fully fitted inc VAT at Ablefit tyres in longwell green Bristol - amazing price!!! HTH

give continental contisportcontact3 a thought too. had an S3 MkI and now drive an S3 MKII and have gone through various tyre changes. Starting with the original Bridgestone Potenza RE040, moved on to Michelin Sport SP2 then onto some contisportcontact3 and last but not least onto Pirellis PZero Rosso! All seemed fine, with the exception of the Michelins which inspite of their advertised "long life maximum results" thing they sucked second year round. The most resistant to fade and impressive even at high speed slaloms were the Pirellis! Even under hard rain they sticked on the tarmac! The contisportcontacts were soft, progressive and quiet on the other hand. My new car has contis on but the Mk2 version of the above mentioned tyre... too soft and lots of grip in the wet but fair traction in the dry.
there you go. another glimpse in the tyre world. hope I have helped. |
