Question Torx!!

Hi,

RE: Audi A3 1.8T Sport 1999

I've got a problem in that my brake lights have suddenly stopped working.

I've checked the bulbs and all is ok so by reading around I guess it must be either a fuse or the brake light switch itself that's the problem. So..I wanna open her up and have a look BUT I have nothing that will turn those damn screws on the fascia!! In the manual I see reference to a 'torx'. Where can I get one that will open up the screws to the fascia. What size? And what should I expect to pay?

Thanks for any help guys.. Is the task ahead of me easy??

Marv

P.S. Oh..and the airbag light is constantly on!!!

sounds to me like a brake light switch fault, its not uncommon for these to fail, you will find it on the brake pedal. you will need to remove the drivers kick panel, which involves removing the drivers end dash trim where you will find 4 torx 25 or 27 (cant remember exactly) and also 3 on the lower section of the kick panel. the lighting switch is next to come out, and then the trim should pop off from the top then slide out. the switch will be eaisly accesable from there. The torx bits should not cost a fortune, everywhere sells these now as they are widly used. the job is very simple and can be done in less than half an hour, but i have done many of these....

with regards to your airbag light, you will need to get a fault code read, but your probably looking at either one of your seat side airbags, again pretty common.

hope this was of some help

Hi Rob,
Many thanks for your reply - very helpful. I have got the torx now but am a little worried about taking the dash/trim/kick panels out on my own as I am clueless at this kind of stuff. Will just take it very slowly!
Thanks again.
