Will post 2001 rear lights fit a pre 2001 A3?

Hello all,

Some idiot recently ran into the back of my 1998 A3 & smashed up the rear light clusters plus bumper etc... Im in the process of buying replacement parts & was wondering if anyone knows if the updated light clusters off post 2001 models (the ones with the big clear silver square) will fit in place of the old ones (which are pretty much red all over)??

as long as it is still the 8L shape they come from then its no problem
