Question A3 1.8t quattro sport start up

Yello

Just purchased the above 02 plate, when starting engine on cold start up the car sounds like a tractor for a better way of describing it!

Even warm starts she is a bit rough when turning over.
Is this normal? can anyone shed some light on it!

Car has been on rolling road etc etc with no faults found

im not sure if its normal mate but mine is exactly the same, sounds more like a diesel when starting it up, but once its running it purrs like a kitten. Again warm or cold it doesnt matter it sounds dreadful on startup! i hope its normal!

Change the oil filter to the modified larger filter. If only briefly occuring it is infact normal and no damage occuring, the advance/retard sender at the camshaft rear chain tensioner is adjusting to cold start command and trying to build oil pressure as fast as possible. But oil sludge is another issue hence modified filter size. Also consider having the sump removed and the oil pump strainer cleaned out to increase oil pressure/feed.
