A3 remote central locking not working

Hi,

The remote central locking on my 1999 1.9 TDi does not want to play anymore, I have changed the batteries in the remote control but to no avail. The central locking only works once I have inserted the key into the ignition and turned it on. Any help would be gratefully received.

Try to resync.Switch ignition on with spare key and remove the remote fob from key,shut the door and lock the door with the key within 5 seconds press the unlock onthe first remote to be coded untill the indicaters flash once,wait 5 secs and press unlock again to confirm this memory position.Remove ignition key and test remote,if ok repeat for other remotes adding extra positions by stting indicater flash.Position 2 will be two flashes.If no flashes then get the fault memory read.This may take a few attempts and lots of swearing.Regards Jon

When you say that your central locking only works when you switch on the ignition, do you mean that it only works with the key in the dooor?

If you cant re-sync your remote, have you recently changed your car radio, or had the battery disconnected for a long time?

Does the alarm still arm/disarm with the remote?

Also check the central locking pump, and see if its damp or has a loose connection.
