Hi there,
Ive just got brought an Audi A3 1.9tdi quattro sport and I would really like to fit it with Xenon highlights. I really dont know anything about how you would achieve this...Does anyone know if you can fit them youself? Or is it not that simple? Many Thanks Buzz |

In the UK, retro fit Xenons/HIDs are highly illegal, and the DfT has advised both the Police and MoT testing stations (via VOSA) to strongly crack down on such modifications.
If you really must improve your standard halogen lighting, then try something like the Philips Vision Plus 50% - they are a noticeable improvement over the standard H7s - though they don't last as long (the standard fit bulbs are H7 LongLife bulbs). There was a very passionate discussion on the Golf GTI forum a few months back. GolfGTI.co.uk forum - Index - search in the Mk5 boards, under thread originator "Creepy Coupe".

The S3 does come with factory fitted xenons, which are perfectly legal, however the aftermarket kits are illegal apparently. To get Audi to fit the same kit as the S3 would at a guess probably set you back close to a grand. So you have to make a decision, risk it with the aftermarket kits, leave it, or go to Audi. Hope that helps

Phffff, going to Audi is not a sensible option, lol.
![]() Is it really that much of a job??? Is DIY off the cards? Maybe if you purchased all the parts yourself (does anyone know the full list?) and got a reasonably priced local garage to do the work? Personally I'd spend upto 250 pounds to get it done, maybe 300. I doubt i'd get it done for the price :-/? Anyone whos has extensive knowledge of this subject, please help! |

You can NOT legally retro-fit HIDs, and nor can an Audi stealer retro-fit HIDs.
The headlamp assemblies are completely different. They have a very high speed leveling motor. They need integrated high power headlamp washers. They need a front suspension level sensor. They need a rear suspension level sensor. They need an ECU to control the high speed alignment. The reason all the aftermarket retro-fit kits are so cheap is because they are utter crap, using very poor quality korean crap parts! If you are in the UK or Europe, do NOT retro-fit HIDs. Instead, try an "upgraded" halogen bulb, like the Philips Vision Plus 50% extra! Rgds

Dont listen to all of what people are telling you about HID lights. They are not illagall to buy or fit after market. They are legal but you must get them fitted at a auto electrick centre who can fit them and level the correct for you and at the right angles they need to be. You dont need washer jets for the lights either! - factory fitted cars have them yes as a extra and a gimick. They dont actualy do much do they? they dont wash the dirt of your lights nor the bugs. HOME are brilliant. iv got there 120000 h7 kit on me a3 2.0 tdi quattro and there are amazing. i dont realy need to use main beam and at the same time of having that much light - the light is also a light blue. iv also upgraded the spot lights to the h7 blue bulbs they sell for £20 which when all lights are on looks very impressive. My brother is a traffic police man and has looked at the lights and so have vosa when they pulled me over and found nothing elegal with them.
