AIR Con Problems with A3

Dear all,

I have an Audi A3 1.6 98 S reg. Have loved the car since i bought her with 15K on the clock.

I now have a problem with the air con unit in that the electronic unit will let me select hot or cold but nothing comes out of the blowers at all.

Am i right in thinking i need a new motor? or a completely new air con unit?

Occasionally the unit makes a bit of a whir, and a bit of air comes out briefly , but then peters out.

Im asking as i have taken it to my local garage who reckon im going to need to spend around £500 on it!!

Ive checked all the fuses as well.

Hope soem one can help

Have you had the gas checked in the air con unit?
No gas it will not work
