Default A2 1.6 FSI Questions?

Hi,

I have a 52 A2 FSI 1.6.

I was wondering how many miles people averagely get with 1 tank of petrol, I get around 250 miles.

Secondly I've noticed the cars 1st gear is extremely slow and sluggish. The car has had work previously done when the engine light appears Audi claims it just coil packs which need to be replaced and they have been changed countless times now however soon after they are changed the car remains sluggish again.

Once the car gets into 3rd and 4th gear it is very speedy.

Any idea's on what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance ppl!

A weak point on this engine is the fuel pressure regulating valve and is very difficult to diagnose, sometimes only when it becomes difficult to start after a short journey, it is locating on the fuel rail and quite a job to get to.I now always look in this area when running problems occurr on this model. Other issues I have seen are premature valve stem wear and sticking valves due to poor fuel quality. Always best to use high octane, low sulpher fuel as all FSI engines.

Thanks for the speedy reply mate, I got my M.O.T up soon so I may look to get this sorted.

Car's been taken to Audi and they claim nothing is wrong?

Is it a big job to sort out and does it cost alot any estimate on price to sort?

Thanks

// EDIT

I only use V-Power Unleaded...

It doesn't surprise me they were stumped, as I said it is a very difficult one to diagnose. A quick test drive and most techs will say it just feels like a normal A2 FSi. The fuel pressure is critical on FSi and can take a lot of time looking at value blocks to spot it, not just the actual pressure but the duty cycle of the high pressure regulator. On top of this the delivery pressure from the tank must be ok too, this involves looking at the amount of fuel delivered in a period of time into a vessel, (I bet they didn't do that one). Having said all this it must not be assumed this is the actual problem, getting back to basics you should get the compression checked as a starting point to make sure all is healthy, cam timing set correctly, engine earths and particualy the one at the cylinder head for the engine control unit. I've found FSi responds well to V-power and is worth the extra in the long run so long as we can get it running correctly.
