My A2 has always made a mild knocking noise when going over bumps but never thought much of it, just took it easy over speed bumps etc. However, the car is 4 years old and therefore outside its warranty and the noise has just become pretty severe and is brought on through pretty minor bumps in the road surface. It turns out, according to the local Audi dealer, that the front anti-roll bar has become detached from its fixings an that the ends of the bar have failed requiring complete replacement. Audi has carried out a temporary repair for no charge. They also let slip that they have had to replace a number of these on the A2 as it is a known problem to them. However, as it is outside the warranty they want approximately £450 to fix it.

Has anyone else encountered this or alternatively know of any cheaper places to get it fixed in the Kent/London area.

thanks!

Hi.

I recently bought an A2 (02) 1.6FSI Sport and after a week of driving it I also heard a knocking sound. I called the dealer where I bought it and they suggested I take it to the closest Audi dealer. When I told them about the sound they immediately told me that it sounded like the anti-role had gone and needed to be replaced. They told me this was not rare among A2's. Fortunately I had 2 months of the warrantly left. They told me that the bushings would require replacing as well as the role bar! The dealer where I bought it from called the car in and only replaced the bushings. This apparently was all that was required! Not sure if that's really the case! They did tell me the bushings had to be geniune parts otherwise non-authentic parts could fail. I wonder why the Audi parts failed in the first place! Anyways, the knocking has stopped although due to the low profiles the suspension is fairly nosiy. I have got to used to it now. I didn't find out the cost so unfortunately I can't be of any help in that area. Hope you work it out.
