Default 99 Cabriolet 2.6 v6 running hot

Guy's after some pointers on my new Audi.

I have got a 2.6 V6 Cabriolet on a T '99' plate and the car is a dream, immaculate to be fair. I do however have a slight concern that the engine is running hot either that or the gauges aren't entirely correct.

When the car is warm the temp gauge sits at about 98 and then fluctuates to about 102 if and when standing in traffic to back to 90 when I put the heating on full. Both fans kick in fine prob when the gauge reads about 102. when checking the pipes top hose is hot as expected and the bottom hose is cooler therefore the rad doing its job. also the water in the reservoir isn't bubbling or excessive blow back into the reservoir tank.

When I was diagnosing the fans I noticed that there was also 3 fuses for the fans do all these fuses need to be populated as only 2 were in place..??

I am wondering if either of the following are the fault:-

1, faulty gauge

2, faulty theromsender from the rad.

3, this is a known issue with these models.??? long shot

I also can't find a Haynes manual to aid me in troubleshooting can anyone advise on this.!

any help welcomed.

Hi
Just a thought, but if you've got an oil temperature guage then see if that and your water temp guage correspond roughly, then at least your guage is ok ish. I have a v6 and it ran cold, so I changed the stat. To change the stat means taking the cambelt off partly. Not to difficult, but as Haynes don't seam to do a manual for it, this is not a task for everyone . I think the stat cost about 7 quid so not expensive, just make sure that it comes with a new seal. As for running temp, mine runs around the same, and since changing the stat, so now it at least gets warm does the mpg a world of good.
Hope this helps
