Hey guys.
I bought a 1.9TDI Audi 80 Estate Auto on Saturday, and I'm really pleased with it.
I'm planning on running it on Veg oil (or a percentage thereof). Has anyone else on here done it? Is there any issues and precautions I need to take into consideration? I'd rather not pay the cost of a full conversion!
What percentage would I be safe getting away with? I'm led to believe the only issue is with starting when cold? Or are there other problems?
Also, I've got everything I need to give it a service. I've only ever worked on my Mk2 VW Scirocco's and Polo before - is there anything I may struggle with, or that may not be initially obvious? I'll be doing Oil, and the air, fuel and oil filters. Is there anything else I should do? The car doesn't have a terrific service history, so if there's anything that's worth doing I'll do it.
The car also runs pretty cool, just under half way between 50 and 90 degrees. It was the same in one of my Sciroccos, which was solved by a new thermostat, and I also noticed a slight gain in MPG! Is this likely to be the same in my 80?
Usually only when cold, the revs sometimes bounce up and down, varying as much as 1-200 RPM. What might cause this, and is it an easy fix?
Also, neither of the lights in the ceiling of the car work, front nor back. Is this likely to be a single fuse? If so any idea which one? I'm also assuming the fuse box is located behind the panel under the steering wheel?
Thanks very much!
Mike.
