Hey there ppl,
Im new to this forum & im in desperate need of your help. On my way home from work, i noticed that my steering had got very hard, almost to the point where it couldnt be moved when at standstill. But when the revs got higher the steering got lighter, but not to its normal lightness, obviously the steering hardness should never change depending on high the revs are (well it was never like this before)! To be honest i never checked the fluid, as i when got home it was too dark to check (will do 2moro morning), but i was wondering if anyone had any idea what might be causing, if its the pump going or the lines have blocked/broken. Please someone help me as i desperately need the car for work. |

On further inspection, due to some light outside, I noticed that the fluid bottle for the PAS was empty. But the line that goes from the bottle to the steering rack, had seemed either to have come loose or cracked/broken as there was fluid all over the steering rack, so I think i may worked out the problem!?

Gd news today ppl (I say that with my fingers crossed!!), I believe that I have fixed my PAS. I had bought some new hydraulic fluid from the garage, put some in the PAS bottle, then started the engine up, then almost instantly after starting the engine, I could see where the leak was coming from.
There was a 19mm nut at the top of the steering rack, attached to one of the hydraulic fluid lines, which had come loose, so obviously I have tightened this nut up & so far, so gd. But my main concern is how did the nut come loose in the first place, does this just occur from bumps in the road or is there a seal or something else between the nut and rack that may have broken? If anyone knows that something is supposed to go in between the two aforementioned parts, then can they pls let me know, many thanks ppl! |
