audi 90 quattro any help welcome?

ive just brought an audi 90 2.3 20v doch quattro and it runs well most of the time but every so often it starts to cough an splutter and struggle to idal causing me to pull over and keep blipping the throttle untill i get the revs up and then give it a bit of a thrashing seems to sort it out! would be greatfull of any help thanks urs faithfully matt

was thinking of changing air filter???
