Question temperature gauge

Hello all,

I recently bought a nice audi 80 1600cc, lovely runner a mere 206000 miles on the clock.
Its running nice but my temperature gauge has stopped working, I was wondering if anyone can tell me where about the temperature sensor is while I,m waiting for my workshop manual.
I can see 2 wires coming from the bottom of the radiator via spade connectors, I dont know if thats the sensor or a switch for the cooling fans.
Any advice would be appreciated.

The sensor you are looking at is for the fans, the temperature gauge sensor is located near the top radiator hose which is near to the engine block.

Default cheers

Cheers Naz,
I shall have a look at that tomorrow when its light, I'll try and give it a clean and see if that works, worse case it'll be a new one. Hopefully not too expensive.
So far Ive fixed the window wipers (tube off the bottle).
I'm gonna emetal an exhaust bracket, and try a chip repair kit on windscreen.
Sounds like its a heap but its a lovely drive.
I had a 2.0 litre red audi 80 k reg about a year ago didnt keep it long, but regretted selling it soon after. So i'm gonna keep this un.
This 1600 is suprisingly nippy for a big car and seems good on the juice.
regards, blue

Hello,

I also have an Audi 80 1.6 Avant.
Could anyone tell me if it's normal that the temperature gauge (on the control pannel) indicates temperature higher than 90ºC or it should stabilize at that value?

Thanks,
Filipe

Normally the temp gauge should be around 90 degrees, sometimes slightly less, but it sounds like you have a blown head gasket. To double check this see if you have a creamy/oily water in your coolant tank, if so then your gasket has gone.
