Hello, I have a 1993 2.0 16V which also ticks but not always. I made an amateurish stethoscope (funnel plugged into the end of a piece of flexible pipe) and isolated the coil pack as the source of the noise.
It is bolted to the bulkhead, in the engine bay, which acts as a sound board to amplify the tick. So far nothing has actually broken and with the radio loud enough the tick cannot be heard. The part that makes the tick seems to be some sort of solid state device and not the coil itself. I have left it and acclimatised to it. Keith |
