audi 80 boot lock problem

Just acquired a nice '92 Audi 80E for restoration but hit a problem - I can't open the boot!! Key goes in and button depresses ok but key won't turn. What an embarrassing start - any suggestions?

If it has a remote alarm system this could be it. Try deactivating the alarm and then open the boot(trunk). Hope this works.

do you know the best way to do this please? & if the remote is opening the doors it's just the boot that won't open is it still likely to be the remote?
