I just bought a 1993 90S 5-speed here in California. I'm hearing many different opinions regarding the car. It is BEAUTIFUL for being almost 15 years old. I would love to keep forever and maintain it. I have a few questions and I hope someone will help guide me as a new owner.
1. what are some of the issues I should look out for to keep it in tip top shape? wiring? hoses? vacuums? 2. is it best to find a good mechanic or a good german car mechanic? 3. what can i expect in MPG? The V-6 purrrrrrs. No shakes. new catalytic converter. new tires. just great. Besides the 3,000 mile oil change, what regular maintenance should I attend to? I hear alot of people make suggestions, but I figure most of you know more than most of them. thank you to all who can help, (oh yeah, it has 177,000 miles, V-6, sunroof, front wheel drive, fog lights, etc) happy, happy new owner ariem |

congrats. i have essentially same car but a 95. replace all rotors
-stock brembos r fine. repco pads good value, invest in a few feet of german cloth braided hose (1/4 inch) .& replace as many vacuum hoses in engine bay as visible, cut new hose just a bit longer & remember that plastic nipples r brittle (time/heat) and many one-way valves r nla; take ur time. tighten all clamps. if any a/c & coolant issues do not wait. as a rule use only oem german parts, dealer is last resort. find an audi mechanic. took me 'bout a year to set my car up, now it's the details (*$!*), btw the v6 has 2 cat cons., forget gas mileage, expect mid 20s avg., premium only ...but what a great car! i will start looking for brembos and braided hoses. the nice thing about the car is that it runs perfect. it just hums. AND the cats were just replaced and there are new tires on it. so i have a little head start. I will work on the hoses and finding an audi mechanic.
question? since I'll only get mid 20's in MPG, is there anything that can help that? air intake? injectors? by the way, I have only used premium gas in it? I see that the specs say the tank is 14.4 gallons. but when I filled it up, it was over 16 gallons. again, thanks for the help. ariem |
