Arrow brains needed for a fuelling fault

hello thanks for looking
i've had a 1990 2.3 10v 80 coupe for six months now and its had this problem since i bought it.
basically under 1/4 of a tank the thing cuts out on me and at 1/2 a tank if i'm going round corners.
narrowed it down to 2 things. the fuel pump and the accumulator as i've changed the filter already
any ideas or people who have had similar problems please let me know
thanks

phil

Sounds to me like your fuel pump/fuel transmitter has become detatched inside the tank. remove the rear seat base and you will gain access to it. not a difficult job, let me know how you get on.

As far as I remember, the pump just clicks into a plastic housing. you will see that the gauge sender is just a reostat. If the pump is loose a couple of ty wraps should hold it in place ok.

Back to basics, forget what the fuel guage is telling you when it cuts out. When it does cut out, is it out of fuel, or how much fuel can you get in it when this happens. What I am trying to say is that just because it says it's got 1/4 of a tank, has it? The fuel guage it self can be adjusted. Have you thought about this. Any futher quetions please reply ( turbodiesel.head@ntlworld.com) All the best David
