Default Audi 90 engine transplants

Hi there, hope your all well?

I'm looking to convert a 90 quattro to a 20v turbo, ideally an RS2 lump or something with loads of Vvvroom! As a daily hack to work...

Any ideas where I can get one from?

Or, how diffucult would it be to convert a 10v to a turbo? Lower the compression, loom, ecu etc? Probably to expensive that way.

Also, with regards to lowering the 90. Why is it 2wd springs do not fit the quattro? Is it to do with coil size? I appreciate theres drive shafts in the back.

Many thanks.
James

bro... some weeks ago I've posted a similar topic... well... my election is a VR6 pwerplant... dunno yet if 12V or 24V... you could look for the 3b/aby 2.2T pp from the S2/S4 Don't think about puting your OHC engine to a DOHC, I know it's possible but is a mess, there are lot's of things to replace. The better option is to look in some junkyards for the 3b/aby motors. Be aware of the ECU's.

Hi there, thanks for your reply, can you tell me what engine is the 3B one as the general lee audi is based on that and that's a 750whp monster.

Many thanks

Well to be honest dunno which engine uses the General Lee, I know it's a 5 and I'm sure it's a 3B or a ABY... both are same blocks and heads...well the same motor 2.2L turbocharged, compression 9.3:1, DOHC 20V), the 3B is made from the late 80's to the early 90's.. is the same used in the 89-91 Audi S2 (220hp and 309Nm, distributor ignition)... instead of the ABY used in the mid 90's (1993-96) with distributoless ignition and direct coil (Bosch Motronic fuel management with overboost control)... it made the same power as the 3B I think, but with the overboost option when you are at WOT the turbo raises a little the pressure to obtain 230 horses and 350Nm of torque.

In venezuela a friend of mine had a 95' S2 Coupe and I have no words to describe the mix between power, torque and handling... and it was extremely STOCK. It seems to be a very nice engine, plenty of power and torque but 5cyl engines are not harmonic, they produce a lot of vibrations and it still be a 5 cyl engine... that's because I prefer the VR6, it's compact, powerful, quiet, a little thirsty hehe but I don't care that and it has an amazing sound like you say -with loads of VRROOOMMM- LOL A 4cyl will never be a 5, so isn't the 6 with and a 8cyl... 400hp in a 6 runs much quieter and smoother than a 400hp 4 banger for example.

P.S.: The RS2 engine is the same as the 3B/ABY but it passed over the Porsche hands...so, I think that it has lots of modifications in the block... heads are the same but the cams!!! The Rs2 cams are wider than the 3B/ABY ones, engine management is Motronic with DCI but fuel and ignition maps are totally different as the Stock Audi's. In fact, the RS2 engine code is different.. it starts with "A" but can't remember how it ends

Make a 3.7L V8 swap!!! hehehe Supercharge it and DONE... 450hp in a V8 with the superb sound of a Stang!!! hehehehehe LIKA!!!!!
